12 Decades Art Hotel

I had a good overnight stay for a budget place, and the room had great amenities, a beautiful view, and the most comfortable bed. The art pieces made it look really cool and unique. The shower let it down and needs some maintenance, or maybe the tiles should be replaced and the drain fixed. The TV wasn't working.

The room looked cute, but that was the only good part. There was what looked like a blood stain on the fitted sheet, and neither the TV nor the Wi-Fi worked. Music from the club across the street was so loud the windows rattled. It's all style and no substance, and not worth staying here.

Maboneng is a lively area with lots of trendy people and great places. I was there for business, but met a cool crew and went out a few nights. Bertrand cafe was one of the coolest spots and really saved the experience for me. 12 Decades should be upfront that rooms facing the main road look straight across at major clubs, including a rooftop bar at eye level. Music blasted day and night, and it felt like sleeping inside a club. The sun made the room extremely hot, while the fan and the other device that looked like air conditioning didn't work. The fridge was dirty, the TV had no working channels, and the receptionist said she'd return with the Wi-Fi code but never did. Check-in was confusing too: an email told me 10am, but when I arrived shortly after, I was told it was 2pm. I showed the receptionist the email and she said the room had been cleaned. The lift was broken, so we climbed 14 flights to my room on the 7th floor, with the rooms being double volume. Cleanliness was about 5 out of 10, and the bin still had beer cans and rubbish from the previous guests. If you want cheap accommodation to crash in after a big night, maybe it's fine. Otherwise, stay far away, since not everyone is there to party.

The surrounding clubs were so noisy that we couldn't sleep until 5am on the first night. By 9pm the next evening we knew we had to leave, and thankfully friends could put us up. I'm now asking for a refund for the last three nights we couldn't stay. This was an atrocious place with false advertising. It isn't a hotel at all, just an apartment block, and there was no one at reception or any hospitality. Our first room had no working lights, with bulbs missing in the bathroom, so we changed rooms. The next one had dirty bed linen, and it looked nothing like what the website had led us to expect.
