I had to find somewhere else to stay at 8p in the evening after discovering there was no running water when I went to shower. I couldn't get hold of the manager, and my refund requests have since been ignored. Earlier, I arrived in the morning and was told the manager would soon be leaving for the weekend. Before she left, she warned me that the area was dangerous and hurried me to make plans for the day. Later, another staff member gave me a panic button without explaining it. I only learned what it was for after calling the host, who said everyone has one and it contacts the local security company. As a solo traveler who's been around the world, including several countries in Africa, I've never had an experience like this or felt so unsafe. Since relocating, I've had no problems and am enjoying Johannesburg. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

We loved our stay and would definitely come back. Breakfast was as promised, and we enjoyed it with a view of the lovely porch. The welcome was warm from the moment we walked into the Guest house, and we were shown to a spotless room that looked just like the pictures, maybe even better than I expected. There were two heaters on when we arrived, so the room was already warm. The complimentary drinks and chocolates were a nice extra. I honestly can't find anything to fault.

The Arum Place Guest House was good enough that I made a point of coming back after my stay last year, and the second visit was just as satisfying. The owners are focused on their guests, with first rate service and genuine hospitality. The rooms for guests and the public spaces are beautifully furnished, and breakfast is delightful. It's a terrific place in a charming corner of Jo"burg, within walking distance of a high street with good restaurants, bars and quaint shops. Parking is available.

The hosts were exceptionally welcoming and served a delicious, generous breakfast. They also shared useful information about the area. The neighborhood is quiet, with various tourist attractions only a short drive away. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, more like a nicely decorated home than a guesthouse.

The breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented, and the owners did a lot to make our 10-day stay enjoyable. They looked into restaurant and shopping options for us, then gave us rides to and from restaurants and grocery stores each evening at no extra cost. They were friendly, checked that we were comfortable, and made sure we had what we needed. Arum Place Guesthouse was clean and beautifully decorated. It went beyond what I expected, and I highly recommend it.
