There’s a large shopping centre across the road, and the hotel has a small pool with outdoor seating. There are also a few seats in air conditioning for waiting for the shuttle. I stayed one night. The front gates were large, secure, and monitored. Check-in was easy, but I got very little information, for example about lunch or dinner. I only found out about the airport shuttle online and then asked about it. It cost 250rand for 2 people. I also had to ask twice for milk for the coffee in my room, and getting pool towels took a while. It felt like I was the first person to ask for them. The rooms are very large, with a kitchenette and small fridge. The beds were comfortable enough, and the bathroom had a separate bath and shower. The room felt a bit dated, the TV channel selection was limited, and the windows had security bars. I ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast, both buffet style. The malva cake at dinner was the highlight, hot and juicy. The rest seemed to have been sitting in a hot box and wasn’t very hot. Breakfast was better, with a good range of cereal, fruit, eggs made to order, hot food, bread, pastries, and a self-serve coffee machine. Some staff were very friendly and helpful, while others seemed to be just doing their job.
The apartment was clean, but it felt shabby and run-down, with a dusty smell. There weren’t enough towels, and I had to call reception repeatedly to get more for the bathroom. The TV couldn’t be watched because the reception was so poor, and the internet was slow and unreliable. A disappointing stay.
Mr Wiseman Ndou booked us with an excellent tour provider, and the hotel TEAM looked after us really well. We were 28 people from the level handicap golf teal at Thika Sports Club, and we were noisy, demanding, and impatient, practically taking over the hotel. Still, the service stayed excellent. The food was fresh, offered a variety of cuisines, and arrived on time. We’d come back if we had the chance.
We were only there for one transit night, and it was a very disappointing stay. At checkout the staff were polite, but couldn’t sort out the double charge and told me to contact Accor myself. I’d asked for a room close to reception because we were arriving late and leaving early, but we ended up in the furthest room, with no help for our luggage. The two-bedroom apartment was old and worn, and there were only two towels for four people. At check-in, the staff were rude and unwelcoming after our long flight. My prepaid booking, paid with 2,000 points + ZAR 248.82, showed as “cancelled,” so I had to pay again, 1,000 points + ZAR 801.48. I was exhausted and worried about my safety, so I didn’t argue. I was effectively charged twice for one night. Weeks later, there was still no refund or resolution despite several emails to the hotel and Accor. I’ve stayed at many Accor properties, and this was the worst experience by far. Check your bill carefully.
The food is well priced, and the beef was top notch. The rooms might be old, but they were immaculately clean. I really enjoyed my stay.
