One Hyde Park

My daughter used to be a regular at the cafe, but after a terrible experience a couple of weeks ago, she says she won’t go back. While trying to find parking, she was treated rudely by the security guard at the gate. He didn’t direct her properly at first, then told her to park outside, and snapped at her to close the pedestrian gate as though it were her responsibility. She sent customer service a complaint on WhatsApp and hasn’t had a reply. Given that response, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The apartment really wasn’t good, even though the receptionist tried her best. The housekeepers were inflexible: when I asked them to come an hour later, they didn’t come at all, and they didn’t clean carefully. There were no fresh towels on my last night, and the dishes were still dirty after being washed. The place was noisy, with a busy road next door and loud drainage that let me hear when someone upstairs used the shower or toilet. There’s no AC in the apartment or gym, and the gym had no mat. There was no generator for loadshedding either. I also found stains on the microwave, table, and kitchen counter from previous tenants. This place isn’t for anyone who needs things spotless.

We had a mess of a time with payment because the card reader wasn’t working, and the attendant looked visibly distressed. The breakfast arrangements were no better. We asked the night before since we had an early start, and were told the restaurant would open at 8, already later than advertised. The next morning, they said kitchen tiling meant it wouldn’t open until 9. We had to leave by then, but they somehow served us breakfast anyway. When we arrived, their system was down, they couldn’t find our booking, and they assigned us the wrong apartment. The apartment itself was nice, but in my opinion the operation as a whole is a mess and not ready for guests.

The rooms look nice, but they need air conditioning, especially after a shower, and TVs in the bedrooms. The bathroom in the main bedroom also needs something to cover it while you’re bathing. Breakfast menu isn’t great. Still, overall it’s fine.
