Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Wanderers

A real highlight of my stay at Protea Marriott Hotel Wanderers was the bar, thanks to Nokwakha. I asked her last night for a Caipirinha, which wasn't on the menu, and she offered to make something along those lines instead. Her South African take on a Caipi was vibrant, fresh, and so well balanced. It was one of the best cocktails I've had in Johannesburg, possibly beyond. Nokwakha has earned my personal title of best bartender in Johannesburg. Her skill, creativity, and service were outstanding. That drink deserves a permanent place on the menu.

The restaurant's food selection was great, and the quality exceeded what I expected. Khulumani, a supervisor at the protea hotel restaurant, also made a big difference to my meal. As a vegetarian, I appreciated how much he explained the best options and helped tailor the dining experience to me. He was friendly, kind, polite, and courteous. I saw him checking in with diners while still giving them privacy, which struck a great balance. He's an asset to the team and a wonderful ambassador for the hotel and restaurant. Thank you, Mr Khulumani, for the excellent hospitality and service.

The buffet had a fantastic range of tasty choices, and every staff member we met was kind, helpful, and welcoming. A special thanks to Sibusiso and the gentleman at the coffee bar. Their warmth and attentiveness really lifted our stay, 10 stars to them! The resort grounds are beautiful, lush, green, and impeccably kept. The hotel is stunning, with modern rooms and very comfortable beds. Service was out of this world from beginning to end. I'll stay here whenever I return to South Africa to see family. The location is excellent, and I'd highly recommend it for a luxurious, memorable stay.

We especially loved breakfast in the morning, with both indoor and outdoor tables. On a September morning, sitting outside in the sun and looking over the grounds, pool, and croquet pitch in the distance was perfect. The buffet was a real gem. The hotel is clean and large, with welcoming staff and very nice room service. It's about 25 minutes from the airport, in a lovely part of town with luxurious parks and sporting complexes. Airport transport is available, which is handy for early or late travel.
