Ten Stirling B&B

I wish I could leave a "sterling" review, but I wasn’t even able to stay. After years of traveling and using guesthouses, I’ve never had this happen. Every phone number listed on the website and Booking.com was switched off when we arrived. It was pouring with rain, and we waited outside the gate for about 40 minutes. We went to get food, hoping we might reach someone. Eventually I got hold of what I believe was the owner, who said she would try to contact the manager. Later I was told the rooms were under "maintenance" and I’d need to find somewhere else. I’d already paid over R4000 for the accommodation. I only got the issue resolved after speaking with Booking.com, and the property itself gave little help. I was hugely disappointed by how it was handled. Future guests should make sure they speak to someone at the property personally at least a day before arriving.

Breakfast was a cheerful event, and they gladly catered to my vegetarian preference. The room was beautiful, cosy, and warm, and it was thoughtful of them to heat it before we arrived. We loved the garden, with its fruit trees, flowers, succulents, and art, plus lovely little corners to sit and relax. I wished it had been warmer so we could enjoy the garden more. On a longer leisure trip, I’d definitely have used the bath and fireplace, though I didn’t get to use the fireplace on this short stay. Clean towels, fresh bedding, good plugs, Wi-Fi connection, and lighting.

The owner is amazing, and there’s something magical about staying here. The rooms are quaint, and I could walk to work since it’s so close. Breakfast is divine, with a smorgasbord of food to pick from. This is where you want to stay.

We were here while touring with our tennis team, and what a beautiful place it is. The host was super friendly, breakfast was great, and it was such a nice place to stay. We’ll definitely be back.
