The Capital on Bath

Getting around was easy: we felt fine walking about 10 minutes to the mall, even at night, and it had plenty of restaurants and grocery shops. Ubers to other places arrived quickly. The hotel itself was clean and modern, with a good shower and hot water, and breakfast had a big spread. Reception were friendly, though a bit disorganized. They never called back about a question, and the only luggage-room key went missing for a while, leaving us without our bags for an hour. That was frustrating after a long day out when we just wanted to shower and sleep. Still, I’d stay here again.

I was in town for a nearby course. The place was tidy and clean, and the staff were kind, helpful, and always around if you needed assistance. The buffet food was okay, though I’m a picky eater. The neighbors were really noisy on the first night.

The construction next door was the one downside. During the day, we couldn’t keep the curtains open. Otherwise, this stay was definitely one for the books. The room was tidy, and the bed was so comfortable, with fluffy sheets. Odwa,Itumeleng,Sibusiso, thank you for making our time there memorable. The whole team, from breakfast and bar staff to the barista and housekeeping, gave us exceptional service.

The poor food and rude, unhelpful reception made for a horrible stay. Breakfast was lacking: there was only government bread, despite the menu mentioning rye and other options. The pastries looked grey and hard but were still undercooked, there was barely any fruit, and the food quality overall was poor. There’s no restaurant on site, either. It took 90 minutes for a salad to arrive, and it looked nothing like the menu description. They also sent extra items I hadn’t ordered, apparently to bring the bill up to my dinner voucher’s value. The pillows were old and lumpy, and the aircon in unit 227 didn’t work. Guests shouted in the corridors until 1 a.m., while construction next door carried on late into the night. Although the hotel is near Rosebank downtown, walking there didn’t feel safe because the route passes the taxi rank, where there are warnings about phone and bag snatching. Stay away.
