InterContinental Johannesburg O.R Tambo Airport by IHG

I had a late arrival and needed somewhere for the night before my transfer the next morning. It's hard to beat the convenience: walk out of arrivals and the hotel is right there, maybe 200 yards away. It was raining, so I appreciated having a covered awning almost all the way to the front door, apart from around 20 yards. Check-in was very efficient. Someone showed me to my room and explained the amenities. The bed and extra pillows were comfortable. There was a minibar, a safe, everything needed for tea or coffee, and biscuits. In the morning I used the exercise room treadmill. You can choose a program or look out at the airport and watch planes land. The indoor pool is small, but pleasantly heated and has lovely views. I also had a nice massage, which I'm reviewing separately. Breakfast included continental options and a hot meat dish made to order. The dinner menu wasn't extensive, but the food was good, and there's a bar area too. The lounge by reception is comfortable while waiting for your pickup. Staff were friendly and accommodating. For the price, it met all my expectations, and I'd stay again. The main entrance is a little hard to spot. You don't need to go up stairs. Walk past the restaurant about 20 feet, around the side, and you'll find reception and a ramp for luggage.

The InterContinental staff couldn't have been better. They met us at the airport, helped carry our luggage all the way to the hotel, checked us in quickly and took care of whatever we needed. The on-site restaurant was good, and the spa was great too. We also had an awesome tour arranged through the hotel with James. Definitely recommend booking with him and asking for James.

We booked three rooms for our family, and the staff arranged them next to each other. They were all comfortable, and we were able to get a late checkout, which meant more time relaxing in our rooms and less waiting at the airport. The gym and pool are well equipped and have great views. The hotel was perfect for our overnight stay before our international flight home. It's right in front of you when you walk out of the International Arrivals hall.

I come back every year for the great food and service. There's a lovely spa on the eighth floor, too. Rebone gave me the best deep tissue massage I've ever had, hands down. If you have a few hours before your flight, I'd highly recommend stopping here.
