The hotel is situated in the midst of 15, 000 hectares of wilderness in the south-eastern section of the world renowned Kruger National Park. With the Crocodile river as a southern border, offering superb viewing of water birds, hippopotamus and large herds of buffalo and elephant right on the doorstep, the private concession area of Mpanamana stretches east up along the border of Mozambique. Via self drive, road transfers, fly-in to nearby airports (KMIA or Hoedspruit, to slightly further Phalaborwa) then to be transferred by road direct to the lodge.

We enjoyed the private land, the beautiful views, and the sounds of animals around the luxury apartment lodges. A special thank you to Khanvisile Mona and Zethu Ndwandwe for a wonderful full body massage. Our ranger, Simon, was excellent and very experienced; book a safari with him if you can. One thing for anyone who relies on internet: cell data reception is minimal, and there's no wifi in the rooms, only in the main lobby. We had a wonderful stay.

We only had one night at Camp Shonga, and the schedule felt too packed to really enjoy the camp or our room. The dining room wasn't very comfortable, and our room/tent felt a little outdated and extremely dark, so one or two more lamps would help. Still, the setting was peaceful, the location was good, and everyone treated us kindly and considerately. We especially loved the game drives with ranger Texan, who did his best to find the animals we hoped to see. I'd also recommend a massage at the main lodge. Despite the things that could be improved, we clearly recommend it.

We had a memorable holiday at Shishangeni Lodge during our recent visit to Kruger National park, and were very happy to spend our vacation there with my wife. The resort grounds were awesome and the rooms were out of this world. We were fortunate to see all the big FIVES, along with many other animals and birds, and even crocodiles on the safari drives. Our ranger Harold was friendly and guided us well on both morning and evening safaris. Mr. Ntikeni, the GM, was helpful and gave us guidance in many ways; Leo, Paradise and the other reception staff were kind and polite. The chef also prepared excellent vegetarioan food for us. It was an amazing experience, and I definitely plan to send my parents for a wildlife safari vacation. Cheers. Chao.

We liked the privacy and quiet of this more secluded part of the park, including the small animals around and the pool for hot days. In November 2024 it was very hot, with game drives at 5:30 am and 4:00 pm. We saw the big 5 and other cool things. It's a nice, classic safari lodge with a timeless feel, and everyone was kind.

My adult son has always wanted to go on Safari, and we both had a fantastic time. We were fortunate to see three cheetahs, two leopards, lions and lionesses, plus giraffes, elephants, lots of birds, hippos, crocs, buffalo, wart hogs, and more. Our guide/ranger Phillip was so knowledgeable. The staff were very friendly, the food plentiful and tasty, and our room was clean and comfortable. An amazing place.
