Sevens Guest House

The location made getting onto the N1 easy, and the fenced parking felt reassuring. We got in late, but the manager was welcoming and even arranged a power point for our camping fridges in the vehicles. We brought our own extension cords. I hadn’t stayed at Sevens Guesthouse for a few years, so I was glad to see the standards were still high on our trip from Cape Town to Kruger National Park. The wooden cabin has separate rooms opening onto a small courtyard, plus a shared lounge and indoor dining area. There’s also a pool for warmer weather. We were there in winter, but the rooms stayed warm with the electric blankets and air conditioners. We enjoyed the stay and would come back.

For an overnight stop, this works well if wooden floors don’t bother you. The beds were very clean and comfortable, and the service was really good. Breakfast is available, and dinner can be ordered through Mr. Delivery.

The setting is lovely, with a bush feel on Kroonstad’s outskirts, yet it’s only 5 minutes from central town. The rooms are cosy, clean, and well equipped, and breakfast was a real treat, beautifully presented. I’ve stayed in plenty of places as an avid traveller, and this one makes my top 5. Host Ansune is a real gem, so accommodating and welcoming. It would suit either a longer visit or just an overnight stay.

The beds were comfortable and gave me a good night's sleep. There’s a decent range of TV channels, and the free WiFi is fine for basic use. But I couldn’t get the air conditioning going, and the room was extremely cold in winter. The little heater didn’t put out any warmth. Sound carries too, so you can hear people walking in other rooms or on the patio. In the bathroom, there’s no shower door, which leaves the whole floor wet, and the rocks placed in the shower are bizarre.
