Lily Pond Country Lodge

The staff were wonderful and extremely helpful, and the place was one of the most beautiful, peaceful spots we’ve stayed in. It deserves five stars rather than four. Thanks, Bronwen 😁 We’ll definitely return.

If you’re looking for peace and nature, take the R102, 20 km east of Plettenberg, and you’ll find a little paradise. There’s a quiet garden around a pond, far from the crowds. Follow the road down the slopes to the sea and you’ll reach the beautiful Natures Valley's Beach and lagoon. After the automatic gate, we were welcomed in person and shown to our accommodation. The ground-floor rooms and bungalows are comfortable, with relaxing views of the small pond and a pleasant private seating area or terrace. There’s a large shower and air conditioning. The pool is a little small, but the loungers around it are inviting. Dinner was the day’s highlight, with a choice of excellent menus. Breakfast is served in a separate, open veranda-style space, with a small buffet and eggs made to order. A tucked-away retreat for independent travellers.

The staff were especially helpful, giving us kind advice about our planned outings and activities. The lodge makes a comfortable place to relax by the pool while staying well placed for hikes, national parks, and other activities around the area. With a car, it’s easy to get around, and we ate out on three evenings, twice at wine estates and once in Plettenberg Bay. The Lily Pond Country Lodge is set beautifully in nature. We received a warm welcome, and the staff and owners introduced themselves by name, which made us feel at home right away. The lodge and rooms are lovingly designed. Breakfast was very good, with eggs cooked to order. The restaurant offers a four-course dinner in the evening, which you can reserve in the morning. We tried it once, and both the food and service were excellent. The price felt a little high by South African standards, but was reasonable.

Our room was already warm when we arrived, with the fires lit, and that thoughtful touch set the tone. Bronwyn was so friendly and helpful, and Elsabe made sure we had everything we needed. Randall cooked us a delicious dinner, too. We looked out over the Lily Pond, surrounded by peaceful, well-kept gardens. The rooms were finished to a very high standard, and there’s a lovely infinity pool, though we didn’t use it because it was cold and our visit was short. We’d definitely come back. This place is a real find.
