Fern Cottage

The owner checked in now and then to make sure we were all right, without intruding on our rest or privacy. When I wasn’t sure the next morning whether work would bring me back, they called at noon as promised to ask. I wasn’t returning, but he still suggested places to visit in the town I was in. I felt at home and completely safe here, and this was one of the many places I’ve stayed that I truly enjoyed. We arrived during loadshedding, and the owner was waiting at the gate to welcome us and let us in. In the cabin, a UPS was running the lights and one power point, so we could charge a phone or laptop. The cabin feels warm, with little pictures and trinkets on the walls, but it isn’t cluttered. There was fruit and muesli on the dining table, coffee, tea, sugar and rusks on the counter, fresh milk, apple juice, yogurt and water in the fridge, and mints on the coffee table. Truly a great place to stay when in Machardo.

Nick was a lovely, friendly host. The little cottage felt like home, and I’d definitely recommend it for an overnight stay.

I stayed here on a work trip and thought the place was gorgeous. The rates are very reasonable, and the owner is super, super nice and accommodating.
