The Grey's Inn

We had a great afternoon at the pub, with cold beer, good food, and a chance to chat and learn about the town and it's history. This started on a Thursday mid-morning, when our visit to another venue was seriously disappointing, so I called the number for The Greys Inn. The owner said it was no problem and he'd come out to open up, even though the hotel bar was closed. Ten minutes later we met Jed, and he'd opened the pub for our small group. Jed, his staff, the bar, and the traditional old school charm of this historic hotel were just excellent. Thank you!

A very pleasant little B&B, with a warm welcome from Jed the owner. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with the basic amenities you'd expect, including charging space, heaters for cold nights, and a mini fridge. The pricing seems average, but the convenient location makes it well worth it. So far so good, I'm going to try the restaurant and pub menu.

The Saturday night bar was busy with locals and a DJ, which added to the ambiance for me. The rooms were comfortable, with good beds, DSTV and fabulous showers. Towels and soaps were provided, and I enjoyed the friendly staff. I also loved the room styling and homely feel. Geoff is friendly and passionate about developing and enhancing the property, and has an eye for aesthetics. I was told this is the oldest building in town, and I loved its styling. It's an oasis in what may currently be an otherwise nondescript little mining town, though there's significant history here. I found the stay comfortable and friendly, with excellent value for money, and would definitely come again.

The food is well priced, and both the delicious steaks and the fish and chips were winners. It's a lovely country inn on the main street of Machadodorp, with a great atmosphere and plenty of local regulars. Accommodation is very reasonably priced, and there's a lovely coffee shop if pubs aren't your thing. Bring cash, as they don't accept credit cards.
