Albatross Guest House

The setting is ideal, with a fantastic ocean view and the beach within walking distance. The swimming pool area is lovely and well kept, with a jacuzzi and small gym. The guest house seems geared toward European golfers who speak German. Internet didn’t work in the rooms, so emailing meant sitting by the bar. Don’t count on the food catering to allergies, and I found the meals uninspiring. Staff didn’t respect guests’ privacy and would come into the room whether you were ready or not. Keep your clothes on, even when the air conditioning isn’t working, because they might walk in.

My fiancé and I stayed from 13 to 15 July 2018, and we won’t be coming back. The only good part was how friendly the staff were. Inside, including our sleeping area, the place wasn’t clean and seemed unready for guests. The white towels were brown and dirty, and after our first night the bathtub hadn’t been cleaned. The tea area was dirty too, so we had to keep asking for clean cups and teabags. Wi-Fi wasn’t working, breakfast was poor, and although the guest house was as big as advertised, the rest of the stay was disappointing.

On 21/06/18, loud music from the Albatross Guest House kept our young children next door from sleeping. The B&B’s listed 24-hour phone number wasn’t available. Albatross Guest house seemed unable to control its intoxicated guests.

The place is worn out and shabby in person, despite looking nice in the pictures. The appliances and furniture are old, and this is not just a cleaning issue. It seems the Swiss owner no longer invests in the property and only gets it ready in autumn for their own arrival. Michelle, the manager, was helpful and very friendly, even arranging an upgrade to a suite, but she seemed tense and overwhelmed with just one family staying. What can she do if the proprietor doesn’t care? The place feels run down throughout. The bright spot was Urs’s employees, especially the gardener and the kitchen and cleaning staff. It’s expensive, overpriced, and not worth the money. In my experience, we’ve only had the best stays at places owned and run locally by South Africans. I’d be wary of guest houses owned by overseas Europeans, as they often don’t seem to care and can be stingy and greedy.
