We had a great safari at Mavela Lodge, with wildlife encounters that stayed with us, including lots of elephants and lions. One afternoon lions passed right by the lodge, and at night you could hear animals in the distance. The game vehicles were comfortable and had plenty of room, which made the drives enjoyable. When the weather cooperated, sitting around the outdoor fire in the evening was a lovely touch. The tents are spacious and beautifully done, though strong wind made ours quite noisy. We also noticed staff leave during the night, so there didn’t seem to be active overnight wildlife security around the lodge. Food was a real highlight: lots of choice, interesting flavors, and beautifully prepared dishes. Fresh espresso and cappuccinos at breakfast were much appreciated. The self-service bar was relaxed too, with good wine and drinks available whenever we wanted. A few details fell short for a lodge at this price, including the small pool, which wasn’t as clean as we expected, and missing touches like bathrobes. The WiFi in our tent didn’t work either. The team responded well and offered us another room, which we appreciated. Staff were very friendly throughout.

The game drives brought us some remarkable wildlife sightings, and the comfortable vehicles made each outing all the more enjoyable. Our luxury tent was very comfortable too. We were especially grateful for how kindly the attentive staff handled our halaal requirements. We had a wonderful stay at Mavela Game Lodge and would highly recommend it.

Even with some challenging weather, we saw plenty at the beautiful reserve, from elephants, lion, cheetahs and buffaloes to impala, nyala and giraffes. We also paused for smaller details like snail eggs and pangolin tracks, things you might not get to see again. The tents at Mavela are roomy, nicely furnished, and spaced out enough to give you privacy. Food was great, and all the staff were outstanding. A special thank you to Nkosophi, Nathando and Vaun, and to the people behind the scenes we may not have met. We had such an amazing time, Mavela, we'll definitely be back!

Riaan, our ranger, knew so much about the different animal species, and we learned a lot from him. A surprise breakfast at the watering hole, watching the hippos, is something we’ll remember for years. We had a magical Christmas at Mavela. The food was extraordinary, the atmosphere was amazing, and the staff were exceptional. Huge thanks to Nuthando, Sibo, Nosipho and Lukhona for making our stay so special. The Mavela team really outdid themselves.

We spent three incredible nights at Mavela Lodge. Its location was great, and it was a wonderful way to finish our holiday in KZN. The safari, guide, accommodation, food and staff were all incredible. Thank you to the team for such a brilliant stay.
