Birdsong Cottages

The mountain top views are beautiful, but there must be other places nearby with similar scenery. I wouldn’t recommend visiting here. The pool is a long way from the cottages, which doesn’t suit people with mobility limits or underlying health problems. The facilities are poorly managed and need more than a little care. Some rooms are worn, and spiderwebs are everywhere, even on the light bulbs in the bedrooms. Spiders were crawling around all over the place.

The cottages feel secluded, the views are lovely, and I enjoyed the pool. But the rooms smelled because of the 100yr old carpets, which really need replacing. Having the toilet in the bedroom with no separation was a no for me. P. S. We had an animal roommate that jumped onto our bed at 6am and scared us, but it was harmless 😂. Maybe we’ll laugh about it someday.

What we saw online was nothing like the apartments in person, so update the photos and stop editing them. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived despite booking in advance, and even the receptionist didn’t know about the reservation. The room was a mess and not clean, there were frogs to look for, and the bathroom was a disaster. The private pool was the worst part. There’s no privacy either, the kitchen and bathroom need a door between them. Worst vacation ever.

Flycatcher was quiet and peaceful, with a little pool and braai area near the rooms. It’s a lovely rustic spot close to the mountain, and the Wi-Fi near reception worked well enough. Mobile network connectivity was the main issue. Also, the road to the cottage is rough. We got stuck in the middle of the night. If that happens, let some air out of the tyres, dig away any sand holding you back, and try to get out of the ditch.
