Seeplaas

We used to love eating at Seeplaas, but in January we had two bad experiences with the food in a row. We took a break and tried again this past weekend. Never again. I'm not sure what happened, but it's probably the worst value for money in the Mosselbay area, with some of the most expensive prices and very poor-quality food.

Seeplaas Grootbrakrivier was a lovely way to finish our weekend. After breakfast and dessert, we explored the on-site gallery and shop, a nice cultural extra. Our waiter was warm and positive, and the attentive service made the visit memorable. The setting right by the water is stunning. It was so peaceful to have coffee with the sound of the waves and the sea stretching out in front of us. The food was delicious, too. There's something for everyone, whether you want to try the gin tasting, sit and watch the ocean, or give energetic little ones room to roam. The big lawn is great for children to run around while their parents relax. We're already planning to return.

We spent nearly two hours there for a sandwich, carrot cake, and a small portion of calamari. The food was very tasty, so compliments to the chef, but the service was a letdown. We had to ask staff ourselves for the bill, ice, or other help, and when I requested extra chairs, I was told to fetch them from other tables. No one asked if we wanted more drinks. The delays started when we arrived. We were told the restaurant was full and asked to wait, then waited a long time to be served once a table opened up. Our drinks took ages, and one was forgotten. The food took a long time too, and they forgot a meal for a diabetic guest, which was especially concerning. The restaurant was full, but there seemed to be enough staff. We've always liked this place and brought our family back in 2026, so the visit was disappointing. We may still stay here again, but we won't eat at the restaurant in future. I hope other guests have a better experience.

We had an amazing Sunday lunch at Seeplaas this weekend. Danie, Jason, and our server, Fleur, looked after us from the time we arrived until we left. Great food, wonderful service, and a stunning location. Thank you, Seeplaas.
