The service was exceptional, and it’s a stunning area for a quick getaway. The unit looked just like the pictures on the online sites, and our stay was wonderful overall. The one problem was a terrible smell when we arrived, as if a fire had been made and the closed-up unit had gone damp. We opened all the windows for a while to clear it. There was no salt, and the bathrooms had no toilet roll holders.

The location is good and the beach is accessible, but the photos also suggested there was a braai on the second floor, which wasn’t the case. This was our third visit to this quaint little town, and we were so dissatisfied. The website pictures were very misleading. The unit suits one couple and two small children, but there isn’t enough seating for four adults or much cupboard space for a longer stay. The kitchen is poorly equipped. The couch is dilapidated and dirty, with cigarette burn marks, and the main bedroom bed was very uncomfortable. That mattress needs replacing. There was no complimentary shower gel, just 50 ml of dishwasher liquid for four days in a town where crayfish is the main attraction. We also had two toilet rolls for four adults for four nights. We’ve stayed at Phoenix and Aandster, and what we experienced this weekend was just plain bad.

The bedroom and bathroom are upstairs, with the living area and another bathroom downstairs, and the place is laid out beautifully. It’s lovely and has all you need, with excellent wifi, unlike other places I’ve stayed at. The beach is only 30m away, though the place is on the second row, so you can’t actually see it. Paternoster has a security problem, so doors must be locked, nothing left in vehicles, and the alarm on when you go out.

A lovely spot for a quiet break away from the hustle and bustle, right on the beach. The accommodation is well equipped, with all the utensils needed, a good clean fridge, stove and microwave, and excellent TV reception. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom clean.
