The weekend was supposed to be a lovely birthday getaway with friends, but the deposit dispute left me really unimpressed. They took money from our hefty deposit for a mirror we didn't break, and hadn't even seen. My friends are responsible and honest, and I've stayed in countless rentals without ever being accused of damaging furniture or decor. Sure, someone might break a glass they use often, but how do you break a mirror you didn't see? They sent a photo of the supposed damage, and the mirror itself wasn't broken. It looked like the frame had come unhooked and could easily be fixed with superglue, yet they charged us to replace it. It was both easily fixable and not our responsibility. The whole thing was ridiculous and created far too much admin. There were other problems too. We had no hot water in room 4, and there was no salt and pepper, so bring your own. I've never come across that before, even in self-catering places, where there is usually at least salt and pepper. I'll never stay here again, and I'm sorry to say I won't book anything with ‘Stay in Paternoster’ either.

The place itself was nice, but the owners' handling of the deposit was dishonest in my view. They told us about a pet deposit only after we had booked, which wasn't forthcoming, though we let it go. No one told us it was nonrefundable even if pets left no trace behind. It felt like they'd try to keep as much of the deposit as possible, regardless of whether there was any damage or excess wear. Beware.

We really enjoyed our stay here in 2018, but this visit was much less pleasant. The place felt run down, neglected and dirty, and it took us two days to clean. It needs a thorough clean and some necessary maintenance. We won't be back.

We spent three days here on vacation with three other couples, and the cottage was fantastic. It sits right on the seafront, with a great view, the town nearby and plenty of amenities. Bars, shops, restaurants and even the artisan market are close. Highly recommended.

Over the moon really does fit the place. We had an amazing stay, loved the spot, and had such a nice time!
