A really nice lodge with friendly service. It’s right at the front of Piet Retief, close to everything you might need.

The breakfast was really good, and they bring it right to your room. It’s a nice stop to split up the drive from Gauteng to St Lucia. The rooms are roomy and comfortable, though bring bug spray. The green, lush grounds also make a pleasant break from the traffic.

Our room was spacious and set in a pleasant garden, but the constant lorry traffic on the N2 just behind the property made it hard to sleep. There’s no soundproofing, so bring earplugs. We stopped here on the way from Kruger to St Lucia, and I’d only stay if you don’t mind losing sleep.

Janie was still there to welcome us when we arrived after 21:00. We spent two excellent nights at African Flair, with clean rooms, proper coffee, and a litre of fresh milk. Thanks to Janie, Andrei, and the team. We’ll definitely be back soon.

Our furbabies were treated like royalty and had room to walk, which was an added bonus. The staff and owners were amazing, and the place was clean and beautifully decorated, with cotton sheets. Parking was safe and secure. It’s close to the road but surprisingly quiet, and that breakfast was wow. I can’t recommend it enough.
