Moonriver Self-catering

Gerald and Denice are splendid hosts, and the place is right on the water. We had a thoroughly enjoyable long weekend away with our pooch. It’s pet friendly too, which makes it a winner. There’s plenty to do, from deli hopping and wine tasting to hiking and paddling along the river. Incredible spot for a weekend away.

Five of us stayed downstairs to celebrate my sister's 40th, and we made great memories. The porch, with its big table, lush garden and well-kept trees, was lovely for spending time together. We used the canoes to paddle along the river, and one evening we cooked at the built in braai near the water. The next night we got pizza from town. The kitchen is well equipped, there are two bathrooms in total, and the bathroom is huge. The art work in the house is beautiful. What a fantastic place.

We loved staying here. It’s riverside self catering accommodation with two separate, well appointed units on the ground and first floors, suitable for two families. The spacious grassy grounds are shaded by indigenous vegetation. Kayaks are provided for exploring the shallow salt water estuary and looking for birds. You can also stay put and cast a prawn offering from the small jetty at sunset to try to catch an estuary fish. We heard fish eagles, saw an occasional seal hunting in the water, and enjoyed spotting Knysna Louries. Fishermen and birders will be in heaven, and adventurous kids will find lots of fun. Groceries and most amenities are about 5 km away by car in Plettenberg Bay. Perfect.

You can fish or kayak right by the river, and there are braai spots too. It’s only 2 minutes from Plettenberg bay, with lovely views. Denise, the owner, is so kind and ready to help with anything. We had such a great time and will definitely be back.
