Masai Lodge

There were cockroaches in the bathroom and the shower head didn’t work. No water was provided. When we asked, we were told to use the tap or buy water for R20, since the R850 room charge only covered accommodation. Wouldn’t recommend.

The location was noisy, close to the main road, with cars and trucks making it hard to fall asleep. Service was poor from the start: loud music was playing when we arrived, then we waited around 20 minutes in the lounge to check in. There was no food choice, you had to eat what was offered. We asked for an English breakfast but were told there were no eggs, so we got yogurt and fruit instead. When we raised our concerns with the owner, she took it personally. The room wasn’t maintained well either. There was no shower head, the bathtub wasn’t clean, the toilet seat was broken, and the aircon didn’t work on a cold night. The TV remote didn’t work, so I had to change channels manually.

The staff were friendly, but I don’t think the room was worth R750. The aircon leaked water over my bed, the toilet seat was broken, and the towels were marked. They eventually moved me, but took the bedding from the same room and used it in the next one. The showers need renovation.

With the taps barely running in some rooms, filling the bathtub can take an hour, and you can’t shower. That can leave you late for your trip or unable to bathe on time. The truck and vehicle noise is disturbing, the windows don’t close properly, and it’s hard to sleep. Staff were unprofessional and didn’t answer calls, yet they let you book and pay when they know the water supply isn’t sufficient. This lodge is rubbish, don’t book unless you want that experience.
