Ku-Boboyi River Lodge

The location is lovely and close to Wild Coast Sun, and the staff were welcoming and really helpful. The pool could use more regular cleaning. A gate or some other security measures might also help guests feel safer.

This was a deeply disappointing stay. The owner was very rude and uncultured, and I found his behaviour racist and erratic. He had staff follow us around constantly and got into several confrontations with guests over just about everything. The water and electricity went off every two hours. The facilities and infrastructure are old and ugly, and the decor felt both unsettling and close to cultural appropriation. I wouldn't recommend this creepy place, especially to Black guests. It deserves a negative star.

My partner and I are still traumatised by what happened here, and we're grateful we weren't hurt or killed. We came for a weekend away and initially found the host and staff friendly and the place charming. At about 4:30 a.m. on our first night, a stranger was in our bedroom robbing us. He ran off with my partner's phone and wallet when we noticed him. I went outside to look for him and saw another man carrying two bags and a sheet over his shoulder. When he spotted me a few metres away, he dropped them and ran. They were ours, including the things inside the sheet. I chased him and shouted for help, but he got away after falling down a bank and disappearing into the dark. The intruders got in through windows without burglar bars and then into our bedroom. We had been told the lack of a front gate and security wasn't something to worry about, but they entered within an hour of us going to bed around 3:30 a.m. It felt as if they'd watched us all night and waited until we turned in. We tracked my partner's phone to a nearby township. Since the lodge is close by and seems like an easy target, we're afraid it could be targeted again. I wouldn't recommend staying here until more safety and security measures are in place.

The place is nice for a getaway, but we couldn't relax because the owner kept coming to the door every hour. We weren't even playing a radio, just sitting and talking, and he still said we were making noise. It felt like we weren't allowed to speak in the house. I understand there are lots of homes in the complex and guests have to be considerate, but the way we were constantly scolded over small things made us feel like kids being told off at home.
