The breakfast was a letdown, especially for vegetarians. There were very few options, they weren’t well planned, and food wasn’t replenished properly. That fits with the rest of the stay, which has been deeply disappointing. We’re in our second room now because the first was filthy and deplorable, more like an abandoned building than a hotel room. The second room hasn’t fixed the basic problems. The walls in the rooms and shared areas are visibly dirty, and the corridors feel neglected and unwelcoming. The pool is green, which raises real hygiene and safety concerns. Our bathtub has no stopper, so it can’t be used, and the air conditioning doesn’t work properly, making the room very uncomfortable in warm weather. For the price, the value isn’t there, and the experience doesn’t match the hotel’s online image. Honestly, my home feels like a 100-star stay by comparison. I wouldn’t recommend Estuary Hotel unless cleanliness, maintenance, and the guest experience improve urgently. And don’t be fooled by the photos online.

The food and spa treatment were amazing as always, and the place is beautiful. But this last visit was different. We booked family rooms, specifically room 207, and my whole family came away with bed bug bites. The bites were bad enough that we all needed medical help. Please look into it. The rooms also had a heavy, musty smell, as if the windows hadn’t been opened in ages. If possible, please air them out when they’re booked.

The accommodation is absolutely beautiful. The cleaning and restaurant staff were kind and always ready to help. The manager at the desk, though, needs to change her attitude.

We were glad to leave after just one night. The restaurant was in lousy condition, with below-average food and poor service, and the staff seemed unhappy to be there. There were no smiles or welcoming spirit. That stood out because almost everyone we met elsewhere in South Africa was very friendly. It’s a stunning location, which makes the property’s current state all the sadder. It was clearly once a prime hotel, but it hasn’t been maintained or updated. The rooms are dated and very average. All in all, a sad place.
