The Tweni Waterfront Guest Lodge

I have walking difficulties, so I booked a ground floor room. The manager, whose name escapes me now, sent me to a back room that was hard to reach. You'd need a 4x4 to park there, then walk over uneven surfaces, as if you had to walk on air to avoid tripping. There were no hand rails to get into the room or to go up and down the stairs to the restaurant. What was he thinking when I said I have walking difficulties? Lulu had to help me in and out of my room. I paid R1900 for two nights and checked out in less than an hour. There was no apology from the white manager and no refund. The management and facilities are a disgrace. I'll report them to the Advertising Bureau of STANDARDS and post on Hello Peter.

We stopped for lunch at Casa Mia at the lodge and will come back next time we're on the South Coast. The restaurant overlooks the river. The portions were a good size and the prices very reasonable. We started with snails covered in melted garlic cheese and mussels in a creamy garlic sauce, both very good. The classic steak, egg and chips was great, and the pizza was very good too. They accommodated my request for extra olives. We finished with chocolate ravioli and ice cream with chocolate sauce.

After a long trip from Port Elizabeth to the South Coast, we arrived to find the room didn't look at all like the advert. The kitchenette was just a tiny table with no sink. I'd booked expecting a sea and river view, but you couldn't see anything from inside the room. The website said there were two rooms, which is why we booked so my daughter and her one-year-old son could have their own space. Instead, the double bed and bunk bed were in the same room. Why would parents want to holiday sharing a room with their children? We didn't stay a single night, but they refused to refund us. The receptionist was very kind and tried to find something that suited us, but we're unhappy with the rest of the service. I don't recommend it.

Very disappointed. There's no AC or heater, and the shower temperature can't be adjusted properly. The TV only gets sabc1, 2,3, with no dstv. There's wifi but no internet. I've stayed in cheaper places with all the creature comforts.
