The scenery, fishing, and the place itself were top class. But our room was very dirty and dusty. The cleaner did very little on the first day. On the second, my husband asked her to sweep the mat, which was so dusty it made us very sick. We also had bats in the room, which was unpleasant.

We spent one night in a comfortable, clean spot with magnificent views. The Special pub down the road was a perfect oasis. We were on bikes, so bringing food along isn’t really our thing.

The safari was out of this world, and it’s only a short drive from Potchefstroom if you need to go shopping. At the bar, I could also buy things like chips and ice cream. Everyone was friendly and efficient, even over the festive season around Christmas Eve. The cleaners were lovely and kept our chalet tidy each morning. This was my third visit to Elgro River Lodge, in December 2024. Our Chalet had a renovated kitchen, which made a big difference compared with other places I’ve visited before. The aircon was a big bonus, and both bedrooms had their own bathrooms. As always, the small pool was sparkling clean, and my kids enjoyed it most. Thanks for the hospitality. We’ll definitely visit you and the Ostrich again!

The river view is amazing, and the rooms are beautiful and clean. They’re nicely decorated, and the staff are friendly. There’s Wifi in the rooms.

A great quick escape for a city slicker, right on the Vaal River. It’s well known as an ideal fly-fishing spot, and the staff and quality of what they offer really feel five-star.
