We’d arranged a late arrival after our flight landed at 11 pm, and were told the key would be in a box; we were given a code. After 24 hours of travel with our exhausted children, we opened the box and found no key. The doorbell got no response, so we called. A woman said she’d come out, then appeared from the garage barely able to stand, with a strong smell of alcohol. She said she’d search for the keys and held onto the wall as she went back and forth. After about 20 minutes, we asked if everything was all right and were sworn at. The garage door then shut, leaving us stranded in the street in a new country in the middle of the night with nowhere to sleep. We were stressed and had to call around to find somewhere. The whole experience was very upsetting, especially with my six-year-old son there. It was deeply unprofessional and I wouldn’t recommend this place.

I picked my family up from the airport and took them to the place they’d booked, only to find there was no key in the safety box. When we finally reached the woman, she was rude and appeared intoxicated, and couldn’t locate their room keys. She eventually shut the door and left us standing outside in the street late at night. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

My family had booked from overseas and arranged a late check-in, with the key supposedly left in a security box. Just before midnight, there was no key there. We spent around half an hour trying to get someone to let us in. When a woman finally appeared, she seemed drunk, was rude, and swore repeatedly. She couldn’t find the room keys either, then shut the door in our faces and left us and our overseas relatives outside in the middle of the night. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

I’ve stayed at 642 twice now and will keep using it as my stopover when passing through Pretoria. On this visit my vehicle broke down, so I arrived late, but everyone at 642 was very accommodating. The Garden Room was modern and spotless, with thick curtains that made a lazy Sunday morning sleep-in especially nice.

We got in late, and Melia still greeted us so warmly. 642 on Vincent is a lovely guesthouse, with a safe, private feel and a beautiful garden and pool. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to couples or business travelers.
