Silver Fig Guest House

Room 7 was spacious, but the furniture and fittings were old, and the bed was nowhere near king size. Springs poked through it, and that mattress should have been replaced ages ago. We only got hot water on the first night. We told staff the next morning that there was no hot water, but nothing was done. The R180 breakfast was extra and terrible value: no fruit, one egg, three rashers of bacon, one thin tomato slice, and cheap white bread we had to toast ourselves. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

I found it best to book ahead. Silver Fig is close to Pretoria National Botanical Gardens, shooting range and October Beer Fest. I've stayed here more than 3 times, for courses and personal trips, and it's been a magnificent experience each time. The atmosphere is relaxed, the rooms are clean and fresh, and the food is great. They also have laundry service, wifi and now covered parking. It has everything I need to feel at home away from home. The management and staff are super friendly and professional. The service was lovely, and the place was just right for the venue we needed nearby. I'd definitely recommend it.

The owners and staff were some of the friendliest people I've met, and they treated guests with respect whatever their race. The food was excellent, with generous servings, and they'll try to accommodate particular diets if you ask. It's a hidden gem for a peaceful weekend away, with lovely views and nature nearby.
