Tented Adventures Pretoriuskop Rest Camp

We saw an amazing amount of wildlife, including lions and a leopard. Alex was our game drive guide and knew a lot about both the animals and the plants. In camp, Stefan handled the catering and kept us laughing while still making sure we were well looked after. The food was hearty and there was lots of it. Don't come expecting luxury, since you're staying in a tent in the park, but ours did have a proper, comfortable king-size bed. The two staff members we dealt with were efficient, and we had a great experience all around.

The food at this private camp was far better than I expected, just brilliant. The staff and service were great, and the tents were clean and right by the camp fence. The bathrooms are in the main camp rather than the private one, and they weren't very good, but you have to use them. We stayed two nights, so it wasn't a major issue.

Our last drive brought us a lion, leopard, and cheetah, a brilliant end to the stay. Alex was a very capable guide who knew many of the birds, trees, and grasses and explained what we were seeing. The morning drives were enjoyable too. We got back at 09h30 to yoghurt and muesli, fresh fruit, then eggs, toast, something meaty, and coffee, which was available around the clock. We'd bought discounted vouchers with friends for a three-day midweek break from Tented Adventures in early 2021, at roughly R500 per person per day for accommodation, meals, and two drives daily. By November, we expected some corners to have been cut, since a three-hour drive alone would normally cost about what Tented Adventures was charging. Instead, we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were exceptionally friendly and efficient, and we were put in luxury tents with comfortable queen-size beds. They offered a drive when we arrived, but we declined because we were there at departure time and didn't want to hold up the other guests. Dinner was served under the stars in front of our tents, with paraffin lamps creating an Out of Africa feel. The staff took care of everything, and the chef even shared his recipes. Each meal had three courses, and the food was delicious. We had expected budget meals, but got T-bone steak, sirloin steak, and chicken kebabs. A glass of wine was included, and they left the bottle for us to finish.

Our ranger, Wiseman, knew his stuff and managed to show us the Big Five in one day. Stefan cooked delicious meals, which we ate under the stars, and the whole staff made a real effort to keep everyone comfortable. The tents were neat, clean, and spacious, with a fan and electrical outlets. My first stay with Tented Adventures was even better than I expected. I'd definitely recommend it and will be back.
