Mont d'Or Swartberg Hotel

Breakfast was good, with vegetarian and vegan choices, and the staff were very friendly. The garden was lovely, the parking felt safe and convenient, and the beds were comfortable. Our room was quite small and narrow, with too little storage and surface space, and rooms seem to vary a lot in size. There were a few other annoyances: the sink drain smelled a bit unpleasant, the phone’s red blinking light bothered me at night, and the room was noisy because the walls are very thin. The window also wasn’t sealed properly, so wind made a noticeable draft. The bathroom did have a nice modernized shower.

Historic, neat, and tidy, with great service, excellent staff, and good facilities. The pool is a nice place to cool off on a hot summer day, and there’s a wonderful restaurant, deli, coffee shop, and gin bar. It’s centrally located, so you can explore Prince Albert on foot. Everything you need is there, whether you’re travelling alone, as a couple, with fatalities, or in a tour group.

The spa was not relaxing at all. The woman doing the gel on my toes spent the whole time on a WhatsApp video call, dealing with another issue from her side hustle. It was unprofessional and extremely frustrating, and the spa felt like a waste of money and time. Service elsewhere was terrible too. The wait staff across the facilities were very poor. The gin bar and ladies bar staff couldn’t manage a basic drinks order, repeatedly forgot orders for people in our group, and were extremely slow with taking orders, bringing drinks, and even bringing the bill. At the main restaurant, we checked with the waiter that our requested side dish was available. After a long wait for the food, a different side arrived, and the waiter said ours wasn’t available. She hadn’t told us beforehand. This is the worst service I’ve ever had in a hotel. If you value professionalism and good service, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

In a beautiful, quaint little town, this is a lovely hotel with comfortable rooms inside. The staff were attentive, helpful, and very friendly. We had delicious dinner, a great menu, and a large, varied breakfast menu too. I can highly recommend it.
