Roydon Private Game Reserve

A quiet, budget-friendly place for some nature time, with a bit of adventure available through vehicle and quad bike game drives. I only came for day trips and didn’t stay overnight, but the staff let us look at the rooms, and they looked lovely. There are different accommodation options for different group sizes and occasions. The restaurant menu is a little limited, though the prices are very reasonable. Worth a visit if you want a peaceful break.

The road in is gravel, but the place itself is great for a reset. The service is excellent, and both the owner and staff are very accommodating.

The dogs were so cute, and seeing all the animals on the property was a real highlight. I’d rate a regular room 4 stars, but the dorm only 2. It has beds for 45 people and three toilets, with no locking doors, and sometimes the toilet doesn’t flush. There’s no warm water, and it’s so cold you’re shivering while trying to get clean. There’s no light either, so bring a flashlight to the toilet or hope it’s daylight.

I was a little disappointed with the rooms. For a self-catering unit, it doesn’t have many self-catering amenities.
