Road Lodge Randburg

I stayed from February 6 to February 16, 2026, because of the location. I know the area very well after living here for over 30 years, and I've stayed at other hotels and guesthouses during visits from London, where I work, before heading down to the Cape, my home address. The room itself was perfect for me, and the cleaning lady did a perfect job. The security guard outside was always courteous, as he has been on all my visits, and everything in my room seemed safe. But the front desk staff put me off. They weren't helpful at all, apart from one young man. On arrival I asked for a menu and was told most of the food wasn't available, so eventually I could choose just one option. On Sunday, I asked for milk and tea and coffee sachets for my room. They had none, but said I could have free coffee in the dining room early in the morning. When I asked why I couldn't have some free that afternoon after going without for three days, I was told I'd have to pay. Guests bang and slam the doors throughout the day and night. That needs to be sorted out so the doors don't slam.

My stay was deeply troubling. The morning after I arrived, I discovered my ID, bank cards, money, phone, and other belongings had been stolen from my room. I reported it to the owner or management right away. They told me to go to the police and return with a case number. I did that, but the guest house offered little response and seemed indifferent. They are now saying I need to come with a warrant officer to view security footage, something they hadn't told me when I first reported the theft. I felt unsafe and unsupported, and the staff's treatment from the start was unprofessional and unwelcoming. I expected basic care and respect, but didn't receive meaningful help or see any real investigation. Given the circumstances and the lack of cooperation, I have concerns that people working with the property's staff may have been involved, though I can't prove that. Because my belongings were stolen and there was so little assistance or accountability, I can't recommend this place, especially if security and customer service matter to you. I hope this helps someone avoid a similar experience.

The TV channels were a big letdown. The room itself was clean, but very basic. It's fine for a night or two if all you need is somewhere to sleep and leave your bags.

I couldn't get to sleep because there was noise late into the night and again early in the morning. From the moment I arrived, I was met with hostility, and even simple requests got an attitude. Although I had booked, I was rudely asked when I was going to pay. Before, I used to settle the bill at checkout. I was hungry, so I ate the pizza even though it looked inedible when it arrived. It tasted off, and I regretted eating it straight away. This stay was unpleasant from start to finish. I wouldn't recommend the place until they get things in order.
