Ten Bompas

The staff made us feel cared for every day, and the welcome was so warm. Service was outstanding, with everyone focused on making sure we were happy. Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were five-star, too. Ten Bompas Hotel gave us a wonderful escape from the city bustle and exceeded what we expected. Thank you for such a lovely stay. Saturday’s visit with my sister was awful. The food was overpriced and tasted bad, and after eating the prawn starter I’m now trying to recover from food poisoning. The prawns smelled strongly fishy and looked discoloured, yet they were still served. I didn’t realize at the time that those signs meant they’d gone bad. The place was empty, which isn’t surprising.

We paid R1 700 for two at Wine House at Bompas and left hungry. For that price, I expected fresh food and proper portions, but the meal felt poor value from start to finish. The course count didn’t match what was advertised as six courses. There were only three actual courses, plus two palate cleansers, making five altogether. The main was a tiny piece of meat, more like a tasting than a main, with two big short rib bones that seemed to make the serving look larger. The starter was advertised as prawns, but it was one overcooked, tough, rubbery prawn that didn’t seem fresh. The portions and menu didn’t live up to the claims, and the presentation felt misleading. I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant unless its serving sizes, menu accuracy, and value improve significantly.

We had a blast at the wedding, and the setting was lovely for a small gathering with family and friends. The decor looked amazing, the facilities were great, and the staff provided top class service. The food was exceptionally tasty and enjoyable. I didn’t stay overnight, but it was a wonderful venue. Definitely check them out.
