I've stayed more than once and plan to come back again. The place is lovely, clean, and well organized, with friendly staff and a carefully prepared, delicious meal. Getting help was frustrating, though. The phone was hard to reach, and nobody seemed to be at the gate when we arrived. The doorbell didn't appear to work, and when we needed assistance, we had to look around the house for someone. It would help to have an admin person at the desk. Please sort these things out, and it would earn our four-star rating.

We arrived at the agreed time, but there was nobody to check us in. We looked around for someone, called with no answer, and eventually reached them using another number from the website. They couldn't find our booking. Then we were told the card machine wasn't working and had to go withdraw cash, only to hear half an hour later that it was working again. Check-in took a full hour. The room was dirty and poorly maintained. The walls were very dirty, there were rats in the roof, the air conditioner didn't work, and the bathroom manhole was open. An electrical plug had blown out, and the shower pressure was very low. I won't be returning.

The welcome was friendly, and the rooms were clean, but I wouldn't recommend this place. The listing says free WiFi, yet nobody told me about it when I arrived and there was no information in the room. I also had a cold shower in the morning. Breakfast only starts at 8, which doesn't work for guests who need to be at work by 7:30. You're paying for a service you can't use. When I did eat breakfast, the eggs were hard and I had to ask for more. Everything had been cooked ahead without regard for what guests needed. The website claims a 3 star grading, but the board at the establishment displays 1 star. This felt like a total ripoff.

Umqhele felt like a home away from home. The breakfast options were flexible, and I enjoyed the amenities. It’s a great place to visit whether you’re on your own or with family.
