The Tin Shack made for a wonderful weekend. The rooms were very spacious, with an open-plan kitchen and living room. It’s quiet and serene around there, great for relaxing. I’d recommend it for families of up to eight.

The house was advertised as being on the canal, but it actually looks onto a thatched roof. There was no light near the braai area, so we had to use it in the dark. The outside rooms smelled of old mold, and we had to buy products to freshen them up. The dishwasher was broken and the fridge didn’t seal properly. We got just one dish towel and one bath towel for three days. Some cutlery was chipped, and there was no plastic bowl or container or oven gloves.

The bedrooms were musty and smelled very bad, and with no outdoor light we had to braai in the dark. The fridge didn’t seal, so nothing stayed cold. The kitchen had limited appliances, and the bathrooms needed hand towels. DSTV wasn’t working, and while we waited for it to be fixed we missed the start of the rugby. We were told to go to a pub.

It was so peaceful, and I loved canoeing with my husband. We really enjoyed our stay. The owners went out of their way to get the dstv working after it had been having problems for a couple of weeks.
