Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Balalaika Sandton

We had an excellent stay, and the hotel accommodation and restaurant were both great. The breakfast packed for our group was a big help with our early flight. One was gluten-free and safe for someone with coeliac disease. Also, my daughter left a toy behind, so I emailed the hotel. When we came back a few days later for another stay, it was waiting in our new room! With two kids, the family room’s two bedrooms and living room made things comfortable and easy. We’ll always remember how much this hotel cared about its guests.

It was a pleasure staying here, and we’d be happy to return. We had a small issue in our previous room, which I won’t go into, but they dealt with the inconvenience quickly and changed our room right away. The staff were so friendly and thoughtful. Rufus and Thammy at the Lord’s Bar were always ready to help. At the Bull Restaurant, Tondi went out of his way to find us a table when it was packed. Matthew, Nxobile and Tshiamo at the front desk were helpful and welcoming. I remember their names because of how well they treated us.

We started with a great night in a ground floor junior suite, me and my two teenage children. They held our luggage while we went on safari, then we came back and stayed three nights in a first floor junior suite. The beds were comfy and the air conditioning worked really well. Room service toasties and chips were excellent, and the attached Bull Run restaurant was fantastic. All the staff were super helpful.

The shuttle to the shopping center was great, and the place had a nice atmosphere, not like an anonymous hotel. The staff were polite and helpful. It could use a bit of renovation, but we still enjoyed our one night there.
