The Capital on Park Apart-hotel

For a short stay, this is a decent place. It's comfortable and safe, with a gym, spa, and pool in the building. The breakfast was just average, 6.5/10 at R290 per person. It's on a busy street, and construction surrounds the whole block.

I got a complimentary room upgrade, and there were some nice perks too. The room was very clean and breakfast was great. Much better than some other hotels I've stayed at. Thanks to Capital on the Park, I'll definitely come back.

We came from Durban hoping for a relaxing weekend, and left feeling humiliated and upset. It was my wife's birthday, and after I gave her a camera as a gift, a security guard came over while she was unboxing it and said cameras weren't allowed, although it wasn't even switched on. The way he spoke to us was rude and completely spoiled the moment. Earlier, we'd gone to the bar for a drink. There were only about three other customers and around six staff standing there, yet our two cocktails took nearly half an hour. They weren't anything special when they arrived, especially for the prices. The reception experience was upsetting too. The woman at the desk, the Indian Muslim lady, was extremely rude and unaccommodating. She made my partner and me feel judged because we're two women in a relationship. Her looks and the way she spoke made her disapproval painfully obvious. It's 2025 in Johannesburg, and this kind of judgement has no place here. It's heartbreaking to be treated that way in hospitality. The evening was meant to be special, but instead we got judgement, poor service, and no warmth. Management needs to address how LGBTQ+ guests are treated. Nobody should have to face that hostility just for showing up and trying to enjoy a stay.

The rooms are nice and it's a great place, but trying to book Christmas Lunch was a hassle. I spent 20 minutes being passed between several different people on the phone before reaching the restaurant. The person taking my details also seemed extremely mentally slow, so I often had to repeat myself or explain what I meant in smaller pieces.
