What stayed with me most was how Lungi Madi made Soweto's history feel lived, not distant. His passion, knowledge, and attention to detail are hard to match. Authentic Bicycle Tours and Back Packers feels true to both the township's life and history and to Lungi himself. I came away moved by his stories, from what happened before and during his lifetime right through to today. I'd recommend him and the tour, and would trust visitors' Soweto experience to him.

The guest rooms are tidy and comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen for guests and good shower and toilet facilities. There are only three rooms, so you get plenty of attention. The team at Authentic African tours and Backpackers is caring and professional, and really wants guests to have an authentic stay. Lungi, your soon-to-be host, has so much love for Soweto that it rubs off on you. You must take a tour with him; he'll share the area's history through his own eyes.

The collaboration with The Blackman's Option, a Network of Traveling African American Men, to support Soweto's Mzamo Primary School gave the tour a meaningful community dimension. Mr. Lungi Madi's Authentic Bicycle Tours and Back Packers offers an engaging, educational look at Johannesburg's S.A. Soweto township, with Lungi bringing the area's history to life. I highly recommend it if you want a knowledgeable guide who cares about the community.

Lungi was a terrific guide, and because he was born in Soweto he could tell us far more than we expected. We had a really interesting tour around the township. Thanks for the warm hospitality, and I'd definitely recommend him.

It's central and convenient, and the accommodation is cosy and adequate. Tours can be arranged to places such as Vilakazi Street and the Mandela House. The Hector Peterson Monument is along the way to the Mandela House. Authentic African Backpackers is a good place to stay.
