Prince's Grant Golf Estate

The setting is exquisite, the food excellent, and the staff friendly. It feels like heaven on earth.

The bed was comfortable, and our spacious room, N° 5, was laid out symmetrically to room N° 2. It’s on the first floor of the club house, next to a wonderful golf course. There are no carts when teeing off after 14:45, though. The ocean and holes 1 and 10 make for a magnificent view. We booked four months ahead and were given a different room from the one confirmed by Candice: we expected corner room N° 6, with a daylight bathroom as shown in the booking website pictures. The room we got was sold as a “Superior Room” and had lavish, sumptuous furnishings in the main building. It looked spacious and comfortable at first, but the upkeep doesn’t match the expensive decor from a few decades ago. The windowless bathroom has rusty drains, loose faucets, deteriorated silicone seals, and a moldy ceiling. There was blood on the back of a curtain, an antique armchair had a leg so short it couldn’t be used, the television wall mount seemed likely to come off if turned toward the bed, and stained pillowcases that couldn’t be washed clean were still in use. It’s hard to understand how such a beautiful, expensively furnished room has been allowed to deteriorate. The mismatch between the booking and the room, along with the maintenance problems, suggests half-hearted management. These issues shouldn’t happen to any guest, whether they’re local or have come from 11,000 km away. Staff could address some of the hygiene problems. If you don’t look too closely, you can still have a great time above a beautiful golf course for around R 2500 a night.

The beach view is lovely, and the beaches are well looked after. At the gate, the guards are always friendly, and wildlife wanders around, from monkeys to bucks. Golf carts can be rented from the offices beside the restaurant.
