The room looked great and was really clean, but the bathroom was the best part for me 😍. It felt very safe around there, close to the university residences and easy to walk into town. The walls are pretty thin, so we heard the neighbours moving around and talking, though it wasn’t unbearable. I would have liked a microwave in the room.

Check-in was easy, the room was good, and the location felt safe.

The place felt very odd, and I really can’t recommend it. The cleaning lady greeted me but gave me no information at all, then asked which room I was staying in. How would I know that? Inside the unit, there was a strong moldy smell, with notes everywhere listing rules and things you shouldn’t do. The shower leaked and flooded the bathroom, so we used all our towels to mop it up. After two days they stopped replacing the towels and didn’t give us any fresh ones, leaving us with one wet towel to share for the next two days. We could hear every word from the neighbours, including their phone calls at 6am. The worst part was the advertised communal kitchen, which the online listing said everyone could use. There was even a booklet in the room with kitchen rules. We bought groceries, then found out we weren’t allowed access to the kitchen, for whatever reason. The owner, who doesn’t live in Stellenbosch, wasn’t helpful. This wasn’t the kind of hospitality we wanted.

We had a big room with a nicely furnished, new bathroom, and our own outdoor spot with a table and chairs was my favourite part. My boyfriend and I stayed at 9 on drommedaris for two nights at the start of our trip around SA, and I’m glad we picked it as our first town and place to stay. The hosts were welcoming and really friendly. It’s quiet, but restaurants and other places aren’t far away. Definitely recommend it.

The people were friendly and went out of their way to help. The location felt safe and was excellent. I had a pleasant stay and would highly recommend 9 on Drommedaris for accommodation.
