We left Majeka House and booked another five-star hotel in Stellenbosch, which was AMAZING. Our refund eventually arrived more than a week later. We had asked for it because of how the stay went. We'd had an absolutely amazing visit before, so we returned hoping for the same. We arrived around 5pm for a reservation we'd made and paid in full a week earlier, but the hotel said it had no booking for us. The staff standing around seemed unwelcoming, as if they just wanted to finish for the night. We had to convince them we really had a reservation and practically prove it, then wait 20-30 minutes for a room to be prepared. Only after that did they offer us a sickly sweet bubbly drink in a champagne flute. It wasn't very good. The room tour came once it was ready, but it was just a tour of the reception foyer where we'd already spent 40 minutes. We also saw the restaurant and dining hall, then were told they could only offer cereal because the chef was away and the kitchen was closed. Our room was tucked at the back under a staircase. It was cramped, though it had some historic character, and everything looked worn and run down, with corners of the beds, chairs and tables scuffed through. It wasn't maintained well, had no view, and felt totally unacceptable for the price and star level. The hotel seemed very empty, but when we asked for a better room, they said it would cost an additional R2000. The manager couldn't refund us right away for some reason, so we left. Dear Majeka House, thank you for your comments and feedback on my earlier review. We booked through Booking.Com, arguably one of the world's biggest booking platforms. I note your comments about the ownership transition, but professional, friendly service and understanding could easily have smoothed over our poor experience.

We tried all the snacks and several Light Bites at Plenitude, and every dish stood out for its fresh, high-quality ingredients. The Kalahari Beef Fillet and Lionfish were both excellent and carefully prepared. Chef Callan and Chef Orlando have put together a lovely menu with thoughtful choices for vegetarians, fish lovers and meat eaters alike. The setting at Majeka House is stunning. The weather let us sit outside, while the interior feels elegant and luxurious without being too much. Plenitude had only been open around two weeks, so it's exciting to see such a strong start. We're curious to see what comes next, it feels like just the beginning. Definitely a place to add to your list when you're in Stellenbosch.

The friendly staff and good spa treatment were highlights of my one-night stay for a nearby wedding. There were some interesting decor choices, but much of the place felt dark and tired. The furnishings looked a little old, and the garden's LED arches were kitschy and badly done. Breakfast service was very slow. My omelet took 40 minutes and tasted rancid. There was no coffee machine in the room, and when one was brought in, it didn't work with the pods provided. The bathroom seemed dark and unclean, with old shower fittings. The balcony view was a joke, there was no view at all. Parking was limited, and this was far too expensive for what you get.

The food was tasty and well prepared, and it arrived quickly. I had the gnocchi and my friend ordered fish, though both portions felt small to me. The waitress was kind and clearly doing her best. We met for lunch at the Majeka House restaurant, but it was completely empty, which felt a little unsettling. I used to love Majeka House and went often, but it has lost some of its former glory over the last few years. I was curious whether the new owners had made noticeable changes. I think the hotel and restaurant may need more time to develop under new ownership. I'm happy to give it some time to start fresh and might return in a few months to see how things have settled.

My best friend and I had a lovely breakfast, then enjoyed the garden and pool before our spa appointment at Majeka House. We chose the THERAVINE purifying clay wrap, which was the best thing ever for our skin. Thanks, Patricia and Elize, for making us feel special.
