Oude Werf Hotel

We spent three nights here and really enjoyed it. The room was cosy, with a huge, comfortable bed, and there were plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Everyone, from the front desk to the restaurant, was polite, and housekeeping kept the room immaculate each day. A great choice for a first visit to Stellenbosch.

The car was taken care of for us and appeared at the entrance when it was time to check out, without us needing to ask. Everything in town was an easy walk from this central spot. We had a Plenty room, which was comfortable though not especially large, and the breakfast service was excellent. Staff were friendly throughout. One thing to watch: the shower temperature kept shifting, and the pool loungers are worn enough that you can feel the frame against your back. They need replacing.

The hotel cost more than some other options, but the staff and the place itself made it worthwhile. We were surprised by how large it was, and the architecture and decor looked beautiful from the lobby through to the rooms. The rooms had everything you might need, including a steamer instead of an iron and board, generous bottles of water, dimmer lights in the bathroom and heated towel rails. Everyone was so friendly that we seemed to exchange a morning or hello with people six times on the way out. We’d stay again.

We had a wonderful honeymoon stay. The hotel is beautiful, with art throughout, and the team were incredibly helpful. I have coeliac disease, and they were very accommodating. The food was fantastic, both the dinner Danine arranged for us after we arrived late, even though the kitchen had closed, and the fresh-to-order breakfast. It was easy to reach Danine through the Oude Werf WhatsApp. Derek was also lovely to talk with and shared lots of useful tips. We had the best time.
