The Stellenbosch Hotel

We were happy with our two-night stay. Room 30 is compact, but the bed is comfortable, and both the air conditioning and TV worked well. The downside is noise from being above the kitchen and oven, though the air vent quiets down around midnight. The hotel sits in a great central spot with a lively street outside. Reception staff were excellent and friendly, and helped us a lot with the car park and bags. The restaurant food was tasty, and breakfast had plenty of choice, though it felt a bit chaotic with nobody really explaining how it worked.

I’d worried this might be a tourist trap, since I’m local, but I was happily surprised by the prices, which felt more like local South African ones. Sitting under the trees by the street was lovely. We ordered cocktails, the white pizza and the burger, which we later learned is called the “monster burger,” for good reason. It’s piled high with cheese, caramelised onions, bacon and onion rings, and my partner loved it. Some of the best pizza I’ve had in Stellenbosch. We’ll be back!

The staff were wonderful, especially Lionel. This historic, very old building is well maintained, and the AC handled the really hot summer days nicely. The location is ideal, right in the middle of everything in Stellenbosch. A fantastic place to stay, highly recommend.

The restaurant is great, and the food was amazing. Staff are friendly and the location is excellent, though the rooms are small and feel dated, so I’d suggest updating the interior. The drains in the apartment were blocked. There’s no air conditioning in the rooms, which makes them very hot in summer.
