Misty Mountain Reserve

We left feeling frustrated instead of relaxed. The Hives may look great in Instagram-perfect photos, but they felt impractical and poorly designed, and Misty Mountain's service didn't justify the price. We did get a partial discount after sharing feedback, but shouldn't have needed to. The rough dirt road wasn't mentioned in advance, which was stressful and risky in a rental car. Check-in was late, the room stayed hot despite ineffective air-con, and there were flies everywhere. Basic things were missing: soap, an iron, a table to eat at, luggage space and storage. The bathroom design was slippery, and the outdoor bath cover felt genuinely unsafe. It seemed like appearance had been prioritised over comfort. Service was clunky throughout. Staff didn't understand what the package included, activities weren't followed up, meals arrived late or incorrect, and communication between teams was poor. Dinner was mixed: great entrées, inconsistent mains, confusing package explanations and noticeably worse service on the second night. Breakfast also fell short, with weak coffee and even a simple request for water mishandled. Checkout turned into an argument about what was included. The domes seem built for Instagram likes rather than livability, and the operation felt undertrained and disjointed. Staff were warm, yes, but the service and execution were nowhere near what I'd expect at this nightly rate or from somewhere marketed as “premium”.

We arrived a day before our booking, but Thembeka still found us a room and arranged a lovely dinner. The food was delicious. Thank you so much, Thembeka, for being so welcoming and providing great service. She's the best!

I expected a luxury stay, but arriving left me speechless. The room, organic cuisine and view were all wonderful, and the staff were fantastic. Nancy the waitress had such a lovely, caring smile. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful!

The detox treatment at the spa left me refreshed and rejuvenated. Nyasha was incredible, so kind and professional. I had such an amazing experience and will definitely come back!
