Storms River Guest Lodge

Maria made us feel very well looked after, with helpful information and complimentary drinks throughout the day. Since we had to leave for a flight before breakfast, she put together a fantastic takeaway meal for us. The room was comfortable, and we enjoyed the garden and pool. Laundry was quick and inexpensive, too. One of the best places we stayed in South Africa, and highly recommended.

We'd happily come back and stay longer. The lodge is in Storms River Village, a quaint little town, and restaurants are all within walking distance. Tsitsikamma National Park is 12km away. Our room was lovely, the service was good, and breakfast had plenty of choices. Guests can also relax in a nice lounge with a range of games.

The lack of hot water and a working heater made this a disappointing stay. After our hike, we found the shower water properly cold. Reception said the hot water was shared with two other rooms and had run out, and asked us to wait 30 minutes. We had dinner plans before the restaurants closed, so we explained the problem, but although the man apologized, he didn't seem concerned about the inconvenience. Later he called to say something had broken and would be fixed that evening. In the morning there was still no hot water; before we left, he said the problem was worse than expected. He offered a free breakfast as an apology, which was a nice gesture, but we didn't have time to take it. We also found the electric heater in our room didn't work. They brought a mini heater, but it didn't heat the space very well. Check-in had been smooth, and at first we liked the room's garden view, small fridge, and kettle. It's hard to know what really caused the hot water issue. Even if something broke just this once, being told the supply is shared and can run out didn't sound like a one-off. I'd book with caution.

Everything is so accessible from here, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The area is green, fresh, quaint, very quiet, and feels safe. Worth it.
