We spent a lot on food that was barely edible, and I won’t be returning or recommending this place. Our salmon and prawn sushi platters cost 225 rand each, but the sushi was hot, falling apart, and came with ordinary mayonnaise. The prawns were ice cold, almost like they’d just come from the freezer. We were the first to order and still waited two hours. The waitress was sweet and very friendly, but a drunk man disturbed everyone and made the children uncomfortable, and the staff didn’t remove him. Very disappointing and not acceptable.

The Mexican pizza was delicious, with standout flavours and fresh ingredients, baked in a wood-fired oven. I’ll definitely go back and try more of the menu.

We ended up sending everything back and leaving. My prawns tasted like old fish and hadn’t been cleaned at all, while my husband’s roosterkoek was soggy after they reheated it. His food arrived first, and mine came 20 minutes later, only after we complained to the manager. A terrible food experience.

Even with a friendly, lovely waitress, our visit to the Old Cape restaurant was a letdown. The manager said the chef was running late when we asked why the only other table, which arrived an hour after us, had been served well before us. We waited two hours, and our food came out at different times, so some of us had to sit watching the others finish before being served. The food was very average for the price and not worth that wait.

The parking exit is very steep, so watch out that your car doesn’t scrape underneath. Noisi, our waitress (sorry if I’ve got the spelling wrong), was lovely and attentive, and the cocktails were good. The food was much more basic: the chicken schnitzel seemed ready-made, the cheese sauce did too, and the fries were far from crispy. Maybe we should have chosen the pizza, which looked tasty and fresh.
