The food was a highlight, from breakfast to the freshly baked scones and coffee, all of it was top tier. Staff were warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere feels like a nice balance of chic and sophisticated. We had a wonderful time at Kloofzicht Estate. The peaceful views made it feel like stepping into a painting, and it was a lovely spot to slow down and enjoy family time. We’ll definitely return!

We had mixed feelings about Kloofzicht, and it just wasn’t our vibe. The cottage looked more attractive in the photos, and we could hear traffic from the nearby road. We weren’t impressed at first and spent the first few hours searching online for other places, but once we decided to stay, we adapted and things felt a little better. It was okay, but I wouldn’t call it luxury. There were good things: the beds were comfortable, there was lots of space, and our daughter loved the dogs. We also enjoyed the deli breakfast, the cottage fireplace, and the very friendly farm manager. The bathroom was okay, too, though the shower was basic and I didn’t like the curtain. The hot tub takes at least three hours to heat. We started it too late to use on the first night, and on the last night the guys forgot to turn it on for us. Coming back from a long day of exploring, we were really looking forward to a soak, so finding it cold was extremely disappointing. The cottage was large for the three of us, two adults and our 8yo, and we like quirky places, but this was a bit much. Literally every item seemed vintage, and there were lots of old iron beds being used as couches. There are three couches in the loft, and I’d suggest moving one into the cottage, which has none. Both kitchens are large but difficult to cook in. The pots and pans are basic quality, and the stove is two hot plates on top of a small oven, with a cramped work surface that sits far too high. We gave up on cooking after the first night. There’s WiFi at the deli and around the property, but not in the cottage. We also didn’t feel safe with the doors, windows, and locks, so we all slept together on one side and only used half the cottage. The beds are narrow, though comfortable. The bathroom mirror was too high for me to see the top of my own head. We booked for three nights at the last minute while road-tripping, and hadn’t planned ahead. It was a long weekend, so there wasn’t much available.

During the wild storms on 10 May 26, we visited the deli twice to get supplies and came back for breakie. The gentleman at reception was an absolute gentleman. We had excellent scones and great coffee in the old cellar downstairs. There’s good shopping for gifts or a treat for yourself, too.

I’ve been coming to the Tulbagh area for years, but this was my first time at the Farm Stall. We didn’t stay there, just stopped by, and it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. It looked small at first, then opened up into a lovely eating space with great views and a nicely quirky feel. The pancakes were lovely, and the service was friendly. Tulbagh in general is very welcoming. I’ll definitely visit the farm stall again next time I’m in town.

We spotted signs for the Farm Deli on the way to the farmhouse where we were staying down the road. We love popping into small padstalle, and this one didn’t disappoint. What a hidden gem, with beautiful vintage pieces and a lovely range of local products. The coffee shop and restaurant sit against a breathtaking view, and we were genuinely stunned. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back!
