We couldn’t stay and had to find somewhere more suitable for our 81 year old father. We’d booked online through a popular app, and the ad mentioned 3 flights of stairs, but at check-in we could see they’d be a challenge. There was a narrow spiral staircase on every floor, with a first aid kit at the bottom. Because of its narrow, spiral design, we felt it was a safety issue for Dad. We told the owner, who was very polite, that the place wasn’t suitable for us. He seemed empathetic and asked us to cancel on the app. But cancelling meant losing more than 70% of the total accommodation cost. There was an option to ask the owner to waive the fee in special circumstances. He could have done that, but instead bluntly told us to read the cancellation policy. We wish him very well and all the best for the future.

The views are insane, and the pool area is nice for kids. The apartments are great, the rooms are well appointed, and it’s a great location. It’s also not a very noisy block like some others in the area.

From inside unit 1, the ocean view was lovely, and there were beautiful paintings on the walls. But the host came across as very arrogant and unwelcoming. Before the stay, the huge WhatsApp messages were hard to follow, with lots of capital letters and exclamation marks. The listing didn’t mention a deposit, but after booking the host demanded R1500,00, which would only be refunded after 10 days. I also found bed bugs during my stay. Instead of taking responsibility and apologizing, the host got defensive and said we’d brought them into her premises. I have pictures and videos of this. I was forced to leave early with my newborn baby at 11pm in the night because of it. I can assure you there isn’t a single bed bug in my house. The fridge doesn’t work, and all our food went bad. If it really is new like you say, I’d suggest taking it back to the store you bought it from. The dishes were very dirty and the place smelled stuffy. If your helper has worked for you for many years, as you said in previous reviews, I’d suggest teaching her again how to wash a plate.

The pool was amazing, and the location was right in the middle of everything while still feeling peaceful and serene. Umdloti Cabanas Unit 21 was fresh, clean, and felt safe and secure. My stay was nothing short of fantastic, and I’d highly recommend it for a memorable stay by the beach.

The views are beautiful, and it’s a lovely place not far from the airport or restaurants. It’s a lot nicer than a hotel, but bring your own towels and bathing supplies. An unprepared traveler will wish they had them.
