Aqua viva didn’t live up to the glamour of its online adverts. It gave me the same letdown as a burger that looks nothing like its menu photo. The air-con barely worked, and when I opened it, the filter looked like it had probably never been cleaned. I’ve included a photo from before and after I cleaned it. The double bed base was broken down the middle and propped up on bricks. The plugs were behind the bed, so moving it to reach them made it fall off the bricks. There’s no swimming pool, which is a definite must for a stay in Upington. I didn’t feel we got value for our money.

The rooms were cozy, the breakfasts were amazing, and the river view was lovely. I’d recommend it and would gladly go back.
