The Anchorage

We stopped in for lunch, and the pizza, burger, and service were all great. It’s a lovely place for kids to play too. The estate could use a little TLC, but otherwise we had a great time and will be back soon.

We’d really been looking forward to a family meal, but after the way we were turned away, I wouldn’t recommend dining here. We were a group of 10 and got a bad attitude and shrugs instead of an apology or anyone taking responsibility. We ate at the restaurant on the 29th of December and enjoyed it enough to ask for a table on the 1st of January 2026 at 12:00. The waitress took my name and number, so we left thinking it was booked. When we arrived, they said there was no booking and that the restaurant closed at 12:00. Nobody had told us that on the 29th, even though I’d asked two different waitresses whether they’d be open on the 1st. I understand mistakes happen and things aren’t always 100, but some apology and accountability would have meant a lot.

Such a beautiful setting, but the service was terrible. We were four guests, including two very hungry little kids, and waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food. Once it finally arrived, we waited another ten minutes for cutlery and the steak sauce. When we ordered drinks, the waiter brought only the cans and asked if we wanted glasses. No ice or anything. My daughter also got very sick from the bacon pizza she ate. It wasn’t a good experience for us.

The quiet comfort of the space and the warmth of the staff made me feel genuinely looked after at The Anchorage Hotel. It was more than just a stay for me, it settled into my spirit. This was the best experience I’ve had there, and the feeling stayed with me well after checking out.
